Business Lobby Focusing on Key Bills in State Legislature

Business advocates are claiming at least a partial victory with the passing of the June 3 cutoff — the last day for bills introduced this session to be passed in their houses of origin. “It’s kind of a good news-bad news thing,” said Marc Burgat, vice president of government relations for the California Chamber of Commerce. There’s still a wide variety of proposed new laws the chamber and other business interests plan to fight, ranging from climate-change regulations to bans on certain types of plastic food containers.
