Health Insurance Measures Clear Houses; Now Debate Begins

The California Chamber of Commerce, among others, opposes charging employers a mandatory fee, saying the idea could hurt businesses, reduce jobs, do nothing to stem rising health-care costs, and should be classified as a tax requiring support from two-thirds of each legislative house. “Employer mandates threaten jobs and slow economic growth,” the chamber said in a letter opposing Núñez’s bill.
